An Interview with the General Manager
General Manager, Gabriella Maltesics, shares her wealth of knowlege on the area to help you discover all Perth has to offer during your stay at Mercure Perth Hotel.
When did you join the hotel and in what role?
Over 10 years ago in May 2006, started as Reception Manager, then moved on to Sales & Revenue, in 2010 I have taken on a cluster role as Sales manager for Perth & Glasgow and in October 2015 I have been appointed as GM.
What motivates you in the hospitality industry?
Hospitality is my passion, every day is different, rewarding and challenging at the same time, you cannot get bored with this job, so many different areas you need to be knowledgeable of and you learn something new almost every day!
What makes Mercure Perth different to the other hotels?
Beautiful converted mill originated from the 15th Century, public areas and function suite still have the original features.
What dishes would you recommend visitors to try when in Scotland?
It’s got to be haggis, as long as you don’t know what it is, you will love it!
If someone had only 48 hours to experience Perth, what activities would you recommend?
Scone Palace is a MUST, the crowning place of Scottish Kings and the beautiful garden is a highly recommended attraction. Black Watch Castle and Museum is also very interesting, but for the real Scottish scenery, put your hiking boots on and climb the Kinnoull Hill for the breathtaking views.
What is your city’s best kept secret?
The Old Ship Inn pub in the Skinner gate was the haunt of sailors at one time, back in the medieval time when Perth was famous of its glove making industry which at its height produced over 30K pairs of top quality gloves a year.
